Silo

The 49th mural in the “Everywhere You Look, UT” mural campaign is painted atop a 70-foot-tall silo on the Bean Mill property owned by the city of Tiptonville.

It is seen by an estimated 3,000 passersby each day and makes Lake County the 45th addition to the 95-county goal. Because there are multiple murals in some counties, the mural count is higher than the number of counties.

The silo was recommended by Lake County UT Extension Agent Justin Foulks due to its central location and high visibility. The silo is located right on Tennessee Highway 22, which leads to Reelfoot Lake State Park—a popular destination for viewing wildlife, fishing and duck hunting. It’s also next to a locally “famous” Dairy Queen, which Foulks says is a popular lunch spot beloved by the community.

Foulks graduated from UT Martin with an undergraduate degree in agriculture business in 2018, and he’s currently enrolled in its systems science in agriculture master’s program.

As a proud alumnus, Foulks is passionate about encouraging Lake County youth to pursue higher education—whether that’s at UT Martin or any other UT System campus. Foulks pointed out that because Lake County is economically distressed, having a mural symbolizing the value of higher education and its affordability can make a huge impact on individual lives.

“What I hope and believe is that the mural will be a monument of hope,” Foulks said.

Tiptonville Mayor Cliff Berry described the “Everywhere You Look, UT” mural as an exciting development for the city.

“Not only does this mural enhance the visual appeal of the area, but it also serves as a constant reminder of the positive impact that the University of Tennessee has on Tiptonville and Lake County,” said Berry. “With the University’s dedication to providing extensive resources, this mural symbolizes the strong connection between the University and the local community. It is wonderful to see such collaborative efforts that promote both artistic expression and community support.”
